The SmartShield option allows you to automatically print a custom transparent security image over the top of
any card design. Once printed, this image appears only when the card is viewed under ultraviolet (UV) lighting or when viewed at an angle under normal lighting.
SmartShield security images are created using any program that can save or export an image in a bitmap
(.bmp) file format. Once created, the image can be opened within the SmartShield Options window of the SmartGuard software and positioned according to how you would like it to appear on the photo ID card. A single
image can be positioned anywhere on the card, or can be automatically duplicated so that either 4 or 6 images appear in preset locations
on the card. Once the image is in the proper position, it is saved or encoded onto the same access card containing your SmartGuard password. This makes your
SmartShield image even more secure, since SmartGuard protects it.
Both the SmartGuard and SmartShield options can be used with all Professional
Series Card Printers except HDP. HDP photo ID card printers support only SmartGuard, and not the SmartShield option. The software is a standard feature
on the DTC515 and DTC525 photo ID card printers, and is an option on the HDP700 Series, DTC700 Series and Pro-L photo ID card Printers. You must use a
print ribbon with a clear overlay panel and UltraCards for SmartShield in order for SmartShield to work properly. For maximum durability, SmartShield should be
used in conjunction with the Pro-L and its PolyGuard overlaminate. For standard durability it can also be used without overlaminate protection with any Professional Series photo ID card printer except HDP.
The SmartGuard option allows you to restrict access to the photo ID card printer by requiring that a custom
access card be inserted into the printer’s Security Card Slot in order for the photo ID card printer to operate. This custom card access is created by using the
SmartGuard software to encode a password of your choice onto one of FARGO’s unique SmartGuard Access Cards. These cards can be set to work on one
specific printer or on multiple printers if using several printers at a single location.
